The Hague Institute’s highly selective Summer Fellowship program was launched in Summer 2013 with the aim of developing the skills of graduate students in an interdisciplinary approach to global justice.
The program is open to current or recent graduate students and runs from 1 June to 28 August. Fellows contribute significantly to ongoing research projects, as well as assisting in the wider activities of the institute.
Duties and Responsibilities
Fellows contribute approximately 38 hours per week to the Institute. They assist research staff with the following tasks:
- Research activities
- Drafting of reports, policy briefs and other publications
- Organization of expert meetings / events
- Administration
Qualifications and Criteria for Selection
- Graduate or current student enrolled in a Bachelor or Master’s Program in the field of public international law, international relations, political sciences, conflict studies, or related disciplines;
- To meet Netherlands visa requirements, eligibility for the program is limited to (i) EU citizens and (ii) non-EU citizens enrolled in a university course at the time of their Fellowship;
- Demonstrated commitment to the mission and objectives of The Hague Institute and a strong desire to work in the field of peace and justice;
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills;
- Excellent communication skills;
- Knowledge of the English language (fluent) and preferably one other official language of the UN.
General Information
The Hague Institute for Global Justice offers genuine supervision of the fellows, a dynamic and flexible work environment, and motivated and energetic staff.
The Hague Institute will offer a stipend of €600 (pro rata) for the duration of their tenure at the Institute. Additional costs such as housing, travel, living expenses, visa arrangements and medical insurance connected with the program must be borne by the Fellows.

General Information about Internships
Interns provide crucial support to the operations of The Hague Institute. The Institute supports interns to develop skills in research, project management and event organization. Interns are recruited on a rolling basis to one of two positions:
Program Intern
The work of the Program Intern is focused on The Hague Institute’s three research programs: Conflict Prevention, Rule of Law and Global Governance. Program Interns provide research and administrative support and can expect to work on a wide range of projects. The Institute makes every effort to tailor the internship program to the specific interests of interns, although the specific focus of any internship will depend on ongoing project needs.
Duties and Responsibilities
Program Interns contribute approximately 38 hours per week to the Institute. They assist research staff in one of The Hague Institute’s three programs (Conflict Prevention; Global Governance) with the following tasks:
- Research

Qualifications and Criteria for Selection
- At least a Bachelor’s level degree in the field of public international law, international relations, political science, conflict studies, or related disciplines. Current undergraduates are also encouraged to apply.

Communications Intern
The Institute seeks a highly motivated and detail oriented Communications Intern who will provide valuable support in event organization, digital outreach and traditional communications. The role requires excellent organizational skills as well as a keen interest in the substantive issues addressed by The Hague Institute.
Duties and Responsibilities
Intern contributes approximately 38 hours per week to the Institute. S/he will assist Communications staff with the following tasks:
- Event organization, management and implementation
- Social media outreach
- Publications (including editing and project management)
Qualifications and Criteria for Selection
- At least a Bachelor’s level degree in journalism, communications, public international law, international relations, political sciences, conflict studies, or related disciplines. Applications from current undergraduates are also welcomed.
- Superior writing and communications skills
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of social media outreach
- Commitment to the mission and objectives of The Hague Institute and a strong desire to work in the field of journalism, communications, marketing and peace and justice.
- Interest in current affairs
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills
- Native or near-native command of the English language and preferably one other official language of the UN.
General Information
The Hague Institute for Global Justice offers genuine supervision of the internship, a dynamic and flexible work environment, and motivated and energetic staff.
The internship provides a stipend of 600 EUR per month. Additional expenses, including housing, travel, living expenses and medical insurance connected with the program must be borne by interns.
The Hague Institute is unable to support visas for internships. All applicants must be eligible to work in the Netherlands to apply for the internship.
Duration
The internship is for a period of five months. The internship period for Winter/Spring 2015 is from 12 January until 31 May 2015.
