Session Highlight:
Advances in Intrapartum Monitoring & Management of Birth Asphyxia
Intrapartum CTG has been an integral part of monitoring the fetus during the delivery process, in order to identify fetus which are in distress, so that delivery can be expedited if necessary. CTG monitoring is highly sensitive but lacks specificity. This has led to the development of alternative tests that can be combined with the CTG to improve its specificity. One of these new test is assessing the ST segment of the Fetal ECG. This test is now available in the STAN (ST ANalysis of fetal ECG) analyser. During this session, 4 invited speakers will describe how STAN can be used and how it may change current practice. We hope that you will enjoy this session and that it will stimulate a creative exchange of ideas:
• Prof. Sir S Arulkumaran, the President of FIGO will firstly give a keynote lecture on STAN.
• Prof. B Arijit of National University Hospital & National University of Singapore, which is one of the few centers in Asia using STAN, will share his experience on this new tool.
• Prof. TY Leung from Hong Kong will discuss the urgency of CS and whether current guidelines on the
30-minute rule for decision-to-delivery interval, may need to be redefined
• Prof. J Hyett from Australia will describe how to identify the distressed and ‘near-miss’ neonates at birth
