Surabaya, Indonesia – The Research Excellence in Advancing Community Health (REACH) center at Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) continues to demonstrate its commitment to improving public health quality through strategic collaborations with various prominent institutions, such as WHO Indonesia, the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes), Universitas Indonesia (UI), and Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM). This collaboration aims to develop a policy brief titled “Best Practices in Utilizing Healthcare Workers from Various Countries.”
Recruitment and retention of healthcare workers in underdeveloped areas remain major challenges both in Indonesia and worldwide. This issue often hampers adequate access to healthcare services for communities living in remote and rural regions. To address this problem, WHO Indonesia and Kemenkes have initiated an evidence-based review involving various cross-sector stakeholders.
In this initiative, REACH UNAIR, along with BRIN, UI, and UGM, plays an active role in collecting and analyzing data and best practices from various countries regarding the utilization of healthcare workers. This review process aims to identify effective strategies that can be implemented in Indonesia to enhance the recruitment and retention of healthcare workers in underdeveloped areas.
The output of this collaboration will be Policy Modification Recommendations, which will be presented to the government and relevant parties. These recommendations are expected to serve as a foundation for policymakers in designing and implementing better strategies to fulfill the healthcare workforce needs in remote and rural areas, ensuring that communities in these regions can receive quality and sustainable healthcare services.
Through this collaboration, it is hoped that comprehensive and sustainable solutions can be created to address the challenges in the utilization and retention of healthcare workers in underdeveloped areas. REACH UNAIR and its collaborative partners are committed to continuously supporting efforts to improve the quality of healthcare services in Indonesia, especially for the communities most in need.
