The Population Health Scholarship Program is designed to bring emerging community health leaders to Washington for a week-long policy bootcamp, including participation in the 2015 National Health Policy Conference (NHPC), meetings with policymakers and community health stakeholders, and networking events with key advisors from AcademyHealth’s Translation and Dissemination Institute and the Committee on Advocacy and Public Policy (CAPP). By connecting these scholars with national experts, they will gain valuable insight into the policymaking process and learn new methods for translating and disseminating their work to decision makers.
Ten (10) scholarship recipients will receive a travel stipend and complimentary registration for the NHPC, and will participate in other tailored activities based on their health policy interests.
This five day bootcamp is designed to immerse scholars in the health policymaking process and introduce them to the top priorities of health policymakers. By the end of the bootcamp, participants will be able to:
- Define national health policy priorities and identify how their local-level efforts apply to the national health policy agenda;
- Translate and disseminate their successes to decision makers, who can inform policy, and to practitioners, who can replicate best practices in their own communities; and
- Build connections with officials from state and national health agencies, community leaders, and other individuals who are leading systems change efforts.
This program is sponsored by The Kresge Foundation.
