Health Outcomes
Show the value of medicines and lead the way in making them accessible to patients. For analytical thinkers who enjoy working with others across diverse functional areas.
What’s this area all about?
Health Outcomes aims to secure patient access to GSK’s medicines by demonstrating their economic and clinical value. In the face of limited healthcare budgets, countries must decide which medicines are good value for money for the population, and therefore, which medicines to invest in. The Health Outcomes team in the UK seeks to inform these decisions by generating and presenting clinical and economic evidence to support national and local market access of GSK medicines for patients. The Health Outcomes team works with a range of functions across the business (clinical, economics, government affairs, and the marketing team) in order to ensure that the value of GSK’s medicines is effectively communicated to key external stakeholders.
What will I learn?
We aim to turn graduates into Health Outcomes experts who can lead the way in giving patients access to medicines. You’ll follow a structured development programme tailored to your interests, which incorporates business leadership and technical training to support the development of your analytic and reasoning skills in a commercial environment. You can gain experience in health economics and data analysis as well as the interpretation of clinical data. You’ll also gain an increased understanding of how changes in healthcare and policy are shaping the ways in which we inform key customers in the NHS. You’ll have the opportunity to attend conferences and workshops and could also further your development through a professional/academic qualification.
How will it help my career prospects?
Health Outcomes is a rapidly growing specialist area within both the pharmaceutical industry and healthcare as a whole. At the end of the programme, you’ll have gained broad experience as a Health Outcomes professional who can lead patient access to GSK medicines. Future career prospects within this area and the broader organisation are excellent, and the skill set you’ll gain is in high demand.
Where can I work?
Our Health Outcomes Future Leaders Programme is available in the United Kingdom. We’re a truly global organisation, so you may find the opportunity to gain international experience in the future.
What’s expected of me?
We’ll expect you to get involved in managing projects and prioritising a variety of tasks effectively. This means you’ll need to build working relationships with people across the organisation. In addition, you’ll analyse information and report your findings, so we can identify and understand trends, insights and facts. We’ll also look to you to help research and source this information. Not least, we want you to keep developing new skills and knowledge wherever you find the opportunity.
What do I need to succeed?
You’ll need a degree in economics, statistics, biomedical science, pharmacy/pharmacology or biological sciences. Add to this ambition, a genuine interest in Health Outcomes and a self-motivated, proactive approach. We’re looking for clear, effective communicators who can quickly build a rapport with a wide range of people. It’s also important that you can adapt to change and keep focused when the pressure is on. While you have the drive and confidence to trust your own judgement, you’re a real team player who actively collaborates with others. In addition, you’ll need an analytical mind, a talent for multi-tasking and the ability to influence others.
