Submission of a research Letter of Intent (LOI) is now an online process. Take the following steps to request web portal log-in credentials and Letter of Intent (LOI) forms and instructions:

· Complete the form and email it to grantapps. It is strongly suggested that all requests for log-in credentials and LOI materials are made, at the very latest, by 12:00 PM EST on Friday, October 10, 2014. Please note that amfAR’s offices will be closed in observance of Columbus Day on October 13, 2014.

Log-in credentials are not interchangeable. A separate request form must be sent for each potential applicant.

If you cannot send the request form, please email the following information to grantapps to request web-portal log-in credentials and forms. Please be sure to include all of the information below, otherwise credentials and forms cannot be provided:

• Principal Investigator name (first and last), degree(s), and email address
• Applying Institution name, city, state, and country
• Project title (maximum 80 characters and spaces)
• One sentence description of the research you are proposing.
• Five to ten keywords relevant to the research you are proposing.
• The names and institutions of at least two scientists who have expertise relevant to the research you are proposing.

BACKGROUND

This RFP solicits proposals relevant to exploring the mechanisms for HIV persistence and the potential for HIV eradication. Highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) has significantly impacted the health of individuals infected with HIV-1. However, if therapy is interrupted, there is a rapid resumption of viral replication. Understanding the mechanisms by which the virus is able to persist in the face of therapy is necessary in order to identify strategies that may interrupt viral persistence and ultimately lead to viral eradication. amfAR wishes to support basic, pre-clinical, clinical, and especially translational research exploring the mechanisms whereby HIV infection persist; the chronic nature of viral reservoirs and latency; and barriers to the eradication of HIV, with the potential goal of ultimately eliminating HIV infection.

amfAR grants are made to nonprofit organizations worldwide. Principal investigators must hold a doctoral degree and be affiliated with a nonprofit research institution. Applicant investigators need not be U.S. citizens, and there are no restrictions as to age, color, creed, gender, medical condition, handicap, national origin, parental status, political affiliation, race, religion, marital status, or sexual orientation.
