Indonesian Presidential Election and health systems – what can we expect?

Indonesian Presidential Election is coming up this Wednesday (July 9th) and overseas voting already started in many places. As we all know, politics and governance have strong influence on health of the people especially for health care and health systems development. And changes in Indonesia, the country with the biggest population and GDP in ASEAN, will certainly have ripple effects on other countries in the region.
The race between the two candidates, Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and Prabowo Subianto, seem to be very close. They also differ quite a bit on their policies related to health sector. Jokonomics, nick name of the populist economic approach proposed by Jokowi, tends to focus more on pro-poor policies including health and education. He did campaign on universal health coverage. Prabowo also proposes a number of health policies including compulsory rural services for medical graduates.
